In case you missed it: FOX Business’ John Stossel recently appeared on the campus of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and invited Equality North Carolina Executive Director Stuart Campbell and anti-gay hate group lobbyist and North Carolina Values Coalition bigot-in-chief to discuss the recently-approved anti-LGBT state constitutional amendment. The discussion was largely civil, though Fitzgerald and Campbell did engage in a few terse moments. Video, originally posted Sept. 28, with some snippets of the conversation below…
On Fitzgerald’s bigotry:
Stossel: Are you against gays?
Fitzgerald: We’re not against gays. … This was not an anti-gay movement. … This was about protecting the definition of marriage between one man and one woman.
On the effects of the amendment, with Stossel first in response to Fitzgerald’s claim that the amendment has no negative consequences:
Stossel: It’s early yet.
Fitzgerald: Well it is, but so far about four months after the amendment none of this parade of horribles has happened.
Fitzgerald showing her ridiculously-baseless bigotry (e.g., “marriage only exists for procreation”) with Campbell responding:
Fitzgerald: Children are the natural product from a marriage. Now there are exceptions to that rule. Couples who are childless are not prohibited from marrying, of course, because [that] marriage is about procreation doesn’t mean that those who can’t procreate are excluded from the institution.
Campbell: Except for gays and lesbians.
Fitzgerald: No. There’s no set of circumstances under which gays and lesbians can procreate. That’s the point.
Campbell: If that is the definition of a marriage then you should limit marriage only to people who go through a fertility test.
Fitzgerald: You missed the point entirely.
Campbell: No, I get your point.
Fitzgerald: You missed the point entirely.
