Karma comes around: Mark Robinson runs for governor but loses campaign funds after reportedly hanging out at porn shops and sex posting on the web. Credit: Social Media

Current Lieutenant Gov. and Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Mark Robinson hasn’t been having a particularly pleasant ride along the campaign trail lately.

On September 19, CNN published a piece on the NC GOP nominee that uncovered dozens of disturbing posts on the porn site, “Nude Africa,” which has rocked his campaign for the top seat in the North Carolina legislature. Much of Robinson’s personal information was linked to a profile on the forum site, in which the user proclaimed himself a “Black Nazi,” admitted to peeping on women in public gym showers as a teen, and professed a love for transgender porn.

Robinson dismissed the allegations and links to him, proclaiming in an interview with CNN that it was created by AI. “This is not us,” he said during the interview. These are not our words. And this is not anything that is characteristic of me.”

Additional public commentary by the candidate speaks otherwise, such as these Facebook comments made in 2017 about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust: “I am so sick of seeing and hearing people STILL talk about Nazis and Hitler and how evil and manipulative they were,” and accusing unknown forces of “pushing this Nazi boogeyman narrative all these years.”

Despite the ongoing controversial issues surrounding the gubernatorial candidate, the Republican Governors Association (RGA) has held tightly to backing Robinson, spending as much as $17.3 million or more in ads supporting Robinson with his run since June 11, according to Popular Information.

As an affiliated Political Action Committee (PAC) and non-profit, the RGA receives funding from major corporations, contributions from employees and other corporate PACs. Surprisingly, one of them is the LGBTQ+ owned and operated delivery business DoorDash, which has donated up to $625,000 during this election cycle alone, and an additional $250,000 contribution as of June 4, 2024. This may come as a shock to readers, due to the nature of DoorDash’s origins, as well as to how it regularly highlights LGBTQ-owned restaurants in its own ads. By donating funds to the RGA, which goes on to fund campaigns and causes like Robinson’s, the business is acting in a manner opposite of the image it is trying to present to its customer base.

Other corporate businesses that have contributed to the RGA include CVS ($550,000), Microsoft ($550,000), Amazon ($450,000), The Motion Picture Association ($250,000), and Wells Fargo ($250,000).

With the continuing controversies plaguing Robinson and the apparent awakening to his history, the RGA has made no further placement of ads for Robinson, according to a CNN report.

Following the allegations that Robinson regularly frequented adult porn shops and the bombshell report about his comments “Nude Africa,” both top staff from his ongoing campaign and his existing office operations have tendered their resignations.

Adding more fire to the flames came this report from Mount Airy, dated Saturday, September 28. During an appearance at the “Mayberry Truck Show,” Robinson reported that he suffered second degree burns after touching an exhaust pipe on a “big rig” truck. According to CNN, he was treated at Northern Regional Hospital in Mount Airy and released.
