Hello, everyone, and Happy Tuesday! My name is Taylor, and I am here with this week’s OUTlook — Qnotes’ weekly newsletter regarding LGBTQ+ business news.
This week, I want to talk about the impact legislation has on economic development — most specifically, how anti-LGBTQ+ policies harm local, state and national economies.
Last year, Wells Fargo released a study showing states with higher LGBTQ+ populations had higher rates of economic growth. Going into a general election year, whoever gets voted into office could play a direct role in how the queer community is allowed to prosper, and in turn, it could impact the American economy.
At the North Carolina level, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was named the nominee for the Republican Party for the seat of governor. Robinson has become known for his controversial statements regarding queer North Carolinians, from calling them “filth” to implying trans people should be arrested for using the bathrooms correlating with their gender identity.
