Qnotes has been an active member of the Charlotte Journalism Collaborative since its launch in 2019. Partnerships like these in our local news community allow us to do robust solutions journalism that tackles the issues faced by our community.

The CJC’s most recent series involved six reporters, including our own Taylor Heeden, who worked together to explore Habitat for Humanity as a model for housing affordability.

Taylor explores Pride Builds, including those in Wake County, that create partnerships between local Habitat affiliates and LGBTQ+ organizations to help house LGBTQ+ families.

Pride Builds from Habitat for Humanity could help the affordable housing crisis in Charlotte’s LGBTQ+ community.

Habitat for Humanity International was established in 1976 with the idea of using partnerships and volunteers to help build homes for those in need. Since its inception, the nonprofit has helped more than 39 million families build safe, stable housing in an effort to create generational wealth in low-income families.

In October 2016, not only were we gearing up for election day, but Charlotte’s LGBTQ+ community was readying final plans for the city’s only Rainbow Build.

The build was in partnership with the Charlotte Gay & Lesbian Fund.

“We hope you will be able to join us in bringing Charlotte LGBTQ community together to build a new home, create a stronger community, and raise hope and awareness.”
