Queen City Friends
The second get together of the Senior QCF group will be on February 23rd from 7:00-9:00 PM at Letty’s on Shamrock. This new group is for anyone 55 and over who identifies as a Lesbian. We’re going to meet twice a month – once during the day, and once in the evening, on the second and fourth Wednesdays. This is to allow those who may still be working to attend at least once a month. I’m Linda Lawyer and I will be the coordinator initially.
A little history – in 1986, a lesbian social group called Queen City Friends was started, to provide an alternative to the bars. It met twice a month, in the evening, at Godfather’s Pizza at Park Rd Shopping Center. They also had hayrides, Valentine Dances; they went to outdoor concerts, picnics, and they danced after women’s music concerts to their own music tapes at a gay bar. QCF lasted for 7 or 8 years and a lot of friendships were made from those twice-monthly meetings.
So it appears that the need is there once again, this time to give senior lesbians a place for friendship and food.
The evening location will be at Letty’s on Shamrock (2121 Shamrock Dr). Letty has been a big supporter of the LGBT Community and like many restaurants, she could use the business right now. So it will be a win-win.
With Covid still making people sick, and a population like ours that is more vulnerable, we should expect everyone who joins the group to be vaccinated and boosted.
This is going to be a work in progress for awhile but we’re going to have fun doing it.
