GREENVILLE, N.C. — East Carolina University hosted openly gay actor and activist Wilson Cruz for a workshop on diversity on Monday. Wilson Cruz, best known for his roles on the TV shows “My So Called Life” and “Noah’s Arc,” now works as the major gifts officer for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
Cruz, an openly gay man of Afro-Puerto Rican ancestry, has been an outspoken advocate for LGBT youth and youth of color.
His presentation was held at East Carolina’s Hendrix Theatre in the Mendenhall Student Center. The event was sponsored by the campus’ LGBT Resource Office, Student Activities Board, Campus Living Diversity Education Team, Ledonia Wright Cultural Center, Department of Theatre and Dance, LGBT and Ally Faculty/Staff Group, Office of Equity and Diversity Relations, GLBT Student Union, Musical Theatre Association, and S.A.L.S.A.
