Back on Jan. 1, The Durham News profiled a new café in town:
The Beyú Caffe (pronounced Be-You) opened its doors at 335 W. Main St. mid-December and has seen a tremendous amount of support, said owner Dorian “DJ” Bolden.
The restaurant, modeled after a favorite spot in his native Atlanta, is a blend of coffee house, bistro, lounge and bar, and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails. They serve a coffee blend called Heart and Soul, crafted by Bolden himself, and sell the beans as well.
Bolden, 29, a Duke University grad and one-time financier, got into coffee after college and following the loss of his father, decided that running a gathering place like this was what he really wanted to do with his life.
Bolden says his new place is for all of Durham:
“You walk in and it’s a true reflection of Durham,” he said: black and white, young and old, gay and straight. “That was the goal of what I really wanted to create.”
