Youth Essay Contest
qnotes and Time Out Youth are proud to announce the 2020 Youth Essay Contest. In honor of the young people at the forefront of the LGBTQ community, we are seeking essay submissions from youth aged 13-20 yo.
Have you always wanted to be a voice for the community? Do you have an important story to share? Do you want to be a journalist or reporter one day? Or, do you know a young person who would answer yes to these questions?
Submissions should be 500-1000 words.
Deadline: March 20, 2020!
To submit an essay, please email entries to email@example.com with the subject line “Youth Essay Submission.” Please include biographical information in the body of the email: name, age, hometown, and how you identify in terms of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Prompt: LGBTQ young people sometimes face risks because of their identities, but there are also rewards that come from being different. So what does being LGBTQ mean to you? Discuss the way you identify and what you do to remain true to yourself in spite of social pressure. Consider the support you have, and the resources you wish you had. What inspires you to own your identity? What results from being honest with yourself and others? Don’t be afraid to be narrative and tell your story.
