Dear community leaders,

QNotes would like to thank you for the services and programs your organization provides to the LGBT communities of the Carolinas. To recognize your service and inform our readers of your work, we hope you will participate in our third annual QNotes Community Assessment Survey. Our survey in 2010 resulted in an historic show of transparency and trust for local non-profits across the region. A total of 22 non-profits participated in 2010. To great disappointment, less than half of organizations we reached out to in 2011 chose to participate. We hope this new online survey will enable more organizations to complete this survey in a community-wide show of organizational transparency, openness and trust.

The Assessment Survey’s purpose is three-fold: (1) Gauge the financial health of our community’s largest organizations; (2) Assess these organizations’ strengths, weaknesses and needs; and (3) Provide organizations an extra means for exposure and outreach.

This year, we are not requesting Forms 990 or other financial disclosures from organizations if the most recently-available forms or other disclosures are publicly available at If we cannot find your organization’s most recently-available forms, we will contact you directly.

Information about your organization as well as your wish list will be shared with our readers in our print and online editions on October 13, 2012. In order to compile all the information received from each of the organizations we are surveying and meet our printing schedule, we ask you to complete the survey no later than September 30, 2012. Over the past couple years, we’ve attempted to take your concerns and suggestions into consideration during survey time. In response, we’ve intentionally made this survey shorter and simpler. We’ve also made the survey online-only, cutting down on the time it might take you to print off forms and mail them. We hope these changes make it easier for you to complete the survey.

If you have any questions, concerns or feedback, please feel free to call or email me at anytime. I can be best reached at the office at 704-531-9988, ext. 202, or via email at

Thank you for your participation. We look forward to receiving your responses.
